Hello and welcome to this explanation of my journey to become a highly skilled and professional Complementary Therapist, Reflexologist and Reiki Master Teacher
From a very early age I have been interested in the different healing modalities our ancestors depended upon to maintain good health and wellbeing. This interest combined with my own personal healing experiences, developed into a passion which encouraged me to research and train in many different healing modalities. Over a period of time I chose to specialise in Reiki and Reflexology of which the benefits of both never cease to amaze me.
My journey as a Therapist began in 1997 when I first experienced Reiki. To be honest, I was slightly apprehensive about receiving, what was, in 1997 a little known therapy in the Western world, but soon discovered my apprehension was unfounded. Over twenty years later, I am still in awe of this beautiful healing modality. Whether I receive Reiki from a therapist, a distance or treat myself it always soothes away any stress, relaxes and calms me leaving me with a sense of well-being and inner peace.
Reiki not only soothes you into a deep state of relaxation but can truly awaken your senses. I always remember how excited I felt after my first couple of Reiki sessions, not only did I feel better in myself, but the grass looked greener, the sky was bluer and the birds sang louder! I had experienced a deep sense of connection with the Universe and with Nature, an Awakening! This is an occurrence that many people in today’s busy world, have unfortunately never experienced, or have long forgotten!
This was an awakening and an experience that has continued to gather pace and momentum.
Since 1997 I have continued to receive and benefit from regular Reiki sessions and in May 2001, with an open heart, interlaced with enthusiasm, I set aside my apprehension and attended a Reiki 1 workshop. This was followed by Reiki 2 in August 2001, Reiki 3A in 2003 when I also opened my own Complementary Private Practice.
In 2004 I completed my Reiki Master Teacher training. I had already qualified to teach Adults, some years earlier, and was, therefore, well equipped to design and teach my own professional Reiki workshops. Initially, I worked part time in my private practice focusing on Reiki; however my curiosity and interest in other complementary therapies lead me, in 2005/6, to train and qualify in Reflexology. Registering with the Association of Reflexologists in 2006.
The pattern of life rarely runs completely smooth and in the summer of 2003 and after a period of ill health, I was diagnosed with Gilbert Syndrome and Barrett’s Oesophagus, a potentially life threatening condition which plunged me into a 4 year ‘self-healing’ quest. During this time I treated myself with daily Reiki along with receiving regular treatments from other qualified therapists and in July 2007 at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital I had an endoscopy to assess the status of the Barrett’s disease. To my Gastroenterologist’s amazement, I was diagnosed with a completely healthy and disease-free Oesophagus! With this ‘all clear’ diagnosis I knew it was time to give up my permanent employment as a School Finance Officer, to become a Full Time Complementary Therapist and Teacher, and share my knowledge and skills with others.
Since 1997 I have had a personal desire to expand my skills and knowledge through Continued Professional Development (CPD).
